Living and working in the Czech Republic, Štěpánka Stein focuses on subjective documentary photography as well as fashion, design and architectural photography. Her past projects include conceptual series exhibited in public space (Beauty Fashion, Mimolimit / ExtraLimit, Space Cowboys); in 2005, they finished a Prague Municipality grant on Karlín, the city quarter devastated most heavily by the unprecedented floods in 2002. Her work was selected by Taschen, the renowned German publishing firm, for its publication titled Best Portfolios (2005). 2005 received a stipend from the University of Sunderland for Changing Faces project. In the year 2006, she has published a book on the National Theatre. 2008 had a major solo exhibition in Prague and a 2010 exhibition at the Czech Center in Paris. Since 2008, she has been teaching in the Department of Photography at Film Academy FAMU; since 2018, she becomes teaching at the Academy of applied arts in Prague in the new Department of Photography. She has been working for fashion lifestyle magazines in Prague, such as Elle, Harpers Bazar or Vogue
