Marketa Sagova-Mareckova studied hydrobiology at Charles University in Prague and limnology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After finishing her studies, she worked at the Institute of Microbiology of the ASCR, where she focused her research on the diversity of antibiotic-producing actinobacteria inhabiting various soils. Since 2008 she is leading a team on epidemiology and ecology of microorganisms at the Crop Research Institute and continues with research on actinobacteria and their secondary metabolites. Currently, she is also employed by the Czech University of Life Sciences, where she is teaching courses on basic and environmental microbiology.
