Markéta Ságová-Marečková studied hydrobiology at Charles University in Prague and limnology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After finishing her studies, she worked at the Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where she focused her research on the diversity of antibiotic-producing actinobacteria inhabiting various soils. Since 2008 she has led a team on the epidemiology and ecology of microorganisms at the Crop Research Institute and also researches actinobacteria and their secondary metabolites. She is also employed by the Czech University of Life Sciences, where she teaches courses on basic and environmental microbiology.
