Luděk Žůrek studied Biology (Entomology and Microbiology) at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. After graduation, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate at NC-State for two years in the Department of Entomology. Then he moved to Kansas State University in Manhattan, where he stayed for 16 years and went through Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor positions. In 2019 he returned to the Czech Republic and joined the faculty at Mendel University in Brno and the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague. His research is focused on the ecology, behavior, and management of insect vectors, vector-borne pathogens, and symbionts, as well as the epidemiology of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the clinical and agricultural environment.
