What if science could rewrite the human blueprint — and how do we decide if it should?
In the Philosophy of Contemporary Moral Issues class, students engaged in a vital conversation about the ethics of genetic engineering. Drawing on insights from Dr. Věra Franková and Dr. Jaromír Matějek at Charles University in Prague, they explored the complexities of somatic versus germline engineering and the intersection of science and ethics.
The discussion was student-led, featuring bold questions and genuine concerns about humanity`s future. Dr. Franková and Dr. Matějek emphasized that as genetic engineering evolves, so must the ethical conversations surrounding it. It`s crucial for the next generation of thinkers to participate in these discussions.
A special thank-you to Dr. Franková and Dr. Matějek for contributing their expertise to NC State Prague students.
