Why did you choose to study abroad?

I chose to study abroad to help myself become more independent. I’ve spent all of my life living in one place and I was not used to living anywhere else. I wanted to push myself to do something that was out of my comfort zone. I wanted to take this opportunity to do that and learn about a new place. I also wanted to grow my skill set and I figured that the best way to do that is to do that in a different place.

What did you learn about yourself?

I learned that I am able to adapt easily. When I am given an unfamiliar situation, I will learn to adjust to it given what I know and what I learn. I also learned that I am able to find joy and excitement in the smallest things and I can enjoy myself! I learned that I am not so afraid of change as I thought I was and that I will be open to change in the future!

What was one of your favorite parts of your program?

I enjoyed learning how to get around the city! I didn’t grow up with public transport and it was an interesting culture shock. I learned how to use the tram, metro, and even a ferry! I got a chance to try different routes to figure out what I liked best. By doing this, I got to see different parts of the city and learn how to get around like a local!

How did your study abroad experience prepare you for your future career?

I developed professional and leadership skills that I will use in the future. I learned how to communicate better, develop better time management skills and adaptability. In my potential career I will use these skills to go about my workday. These valuable skills will help me no matter what career I end up in.

What advice do you have to future study abroad students?

I would say, don’t be afraid of change! It seems really scary but it is going to be worth it. You will learn so much about yourself and the world. You are going to have memories that you will look back at as some of the best times of your life!

Would you do it again?

If I had the opportunity to travel again I definitely will. I would want to go to a different continent if I could. This way I could experience a different lifestyle!
