Partner Profile: Charles University in Prague

NC State is connected with more than 130 institutions around the world. With our university’s permanent presence in the Czech Republic through the NC State European Center in Prague, our partnership with Charles University is to the benefit of students, faculty, and staff for increased engagement with the international community.

Charles University was founded in 1348, making it one of the oldest universities in the world. The university is also renowned as a modern, dynamic, cosmopolitan and prestigious institution of higher education.

In October of 2017, Chancellor Woodson and a delegation of administrators from NC State traveled to the NC State European Center in Prague to sign an agreement with Charles University to formalize and expand relationships for student exchange and research collaboration. Currently, Prague is the top destination for NC State study abroad students.

Faculty can get involved with Charles University in Prague through co-teaching, facilitating symposia and collaborating on joint publications.

Thirty-seven students recently returned from their First-Year Inquiry experience in Prague, a two-week study abroad program integrated with high-impact experiences, including visits to museums, monuments, and cultural landmarks.

Students immersed themselves in inquiry-guided learning by exploring historic Prague along with NC State faculty and staff. Once back on NC State’s campus, students reflect on their experience together before starting their school year and learn how to apply lessons learned to university life.

The Office of Global Engagement is welcoming a delegation from the Czech Republic to visit NC State in early September.
