Program Description

Students from any academic discipline can gain practical skills by participating in this internship program in the heart of Europe. Students are placed in individualized internships based on their career goals, majors, personal preferences, and experience. Internship placements are unpaid, will be conducted in English, and are organized by the NC State European Center in Prague. During the six-week program in Prague, students will spend 32-34 hours per week working in their assigned internship. In addition, students will take SLC 450 “Applied Leadership Skill-Building within an Internship Experience” taught virtually by faculty in the United States. This six-credit course is a required part of the internship experience in Prague. Cultural excursions and experiences are also built into the program for students to gain a well-rounded understanding of the global business environment.

  1. Students will indicate their career goals during the application phase and upload a resume.
  2. Applicants will have an individualized advising interview with our Prague-based internship program coordinator. An objective of this is to help students better understand the study abroad and internship placement process, as well as for us to get to know you better as applicants. Students will have the opportunity then to discuss their goals more in-depth. This advising interview will occur only after submitting all other application materials.
  3. Following the application deadline, NC State Prague will review each application and send out decisions. Then we will begin the placement process for those who have been accepted. Ultimately it could take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months to finalize the placement, as it requires time and effort to ensure that a proper match between the student and the company has been made.
  4. We ask that you please be patient during this process. If, for some reason, you end up not being satisfied with your placement, then you may be eligible to join our Summer Classic program instead or can withdraw completely.

SLC 450 Applied Leadership Skill-Building within an Internship Experience (6 credit hours)

This course provides an opportunity for students to gain practical leadership skills and global knowledge that will be transferrable to the student’s academic and career goals. In addition to the work described in the internship contract (32-34 hours/ week for six weeks), the student will participate in weekly one-hour seminars, attend cultural excursions, and complete a series of reflective assignments related to the experience.
