About the Minor
This interdisciplinary and innovative minor is designed to give students from any academic background a competitive edge in the global workforce.
The study abroad component of the minor lasts 10 weeks and offers participating students the opportunity to earn 12 credit hours toward the Global Leadership Minor. The European sojourn commences at the NC State European Center and incorporates two additional European destinations into the itinerary. Students will gain insights into and appreciation for diverse cultures while collaborating with local students.

Steps to Apply to Minor
- Must register for the minor through MyPack Portal CODA. Students can register for the minor at any point.
- Schedule a meeting with Academic Director Dr. Debbie Acker.
- Following acceptance into the minor, students will be directed to the study abroad application process.

Overview
The Global Leadership and Team-Decision Making minor is a collaboration between the Shelton Leadership Center and NC State European Center in Prague. The Global Leadership and Team Decision-Making minor is a 15-hour minor designed for students seeking to gain greater knowledge and understanding of leadership and team decision-making from a European global perspective. The coursework comprises courses grounded in theory, inquiry, and application. Students will join a cohort of up to 15 people for a semester abroad in the Czech Republic and 2 other European Union countries (depending on the track). It is recommended that all students complete SLC 250: Critical and Creative Decision-Making to fulfill the 5-hrs requirement needed. Please consult Debbie Acker about the available options. Students from any academic discipline are eligible to apply for the Global Leadership (GLM) program.
Minor Objectives
A primary goal of the minor is to educate the student to be known as a cross-disciplinary, global-minded leader within whatever professional field he/she seeks beyond graduation. The student should develop an ability to see his or her own leadership competencies within their academic field and then in relation to working across disciplines and cultures.
The minor is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of how to work more collaboratively, creatively, and effectively with people from disciplines outside of their origination and, more importantly, from other cultures. All students interested in studying abroad in Europe who intend to enhance leadership and effective teamwork from a global perspective are encouraged to apply to the minor.
When I heard about the Global Leadership Minor, I knew it was a fit for me. I could continue building on my leadership skills while being exposed to diverse cultures in three different countries.

Student Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this minor, students will be able to:
- Identify leadership theories across cultures and disciplines
- Assess how values and ethics influence leadership outcomes from a global perspective
- Compare and contrast leadership practices and strategies across disciplines
- Relate leadership theories and practices to real-life situations
- Articulate the most appropriate team decision-making strategies to implement in different situations
- Explain the differences between leadership strategies and theories across cultures and disciplines
Courses
Each three-credit course will be taught for approximately two to three weeks in a different European location, except for SLC 250. 12 out of the 15 credit hours towards the minor will be taken abroad. Some courses are co-taught by an NC State faculty member and a faculty member from one of NC State’s partner universities.

Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.5
- Must meet the NC State Study Abroad Office eligibility requirements for Conduct
- At least Sophomore standing at the time of the program (unless permission from an administrator is granted)
- Must have taken SLC 250 with a passing grade prior to the program start date (for special circumstances, discuss with a program administrator)

Program Cost
Students are eligible to utilize financial aid and are also encouraged to apply for a study abroad scholarship.
- Admin Fee: $450 ($75 non-refundable set-up fee and $375 study abroad fee)

Excursions, Cultural Activities and Field trips
The NC State European Center believes “the world becomes your classroom,” namely the Czech Republic and Prague. Global Leadership Minor offers to expand this experience by immersing students in multiple European countries’ local cultures. GLM students still have the chance to sign up for some optional activities in addition to course-related excursions (such as opera, a day trip to a medieval castle, or a hiking trip organized by Czech dorm mates).
Housing
All program participants will be provided with accommodation in all three countries.
During the Prague stay of the program, in addition to NC State peers who live in the same building, several Czech dorm mates (local university students) also reside in the same building and provide additional support and local connections.
